My friend Erin

So my friend Erin is an amazing photographer. But she lives in Victoria, so she's not our photographer. However she was here at Christmas time, and brought her portable studio with her. And I was so so so excited that she wanted to take some pictures of Malcolm as her baby gift to me. And they are AMAZING!! Here is the link.

World Juniors

So the family bought tickets to the World Juniors this year. For those of you who don't follow hockey, this is a HUGE tournament. Teams are made up of the up and comers in hockey 19 and under. They are chosen from junior league hockey. And it's AMAZING hockey to watch. Always intense, always nail biting, just awesome hockey.

We have 4 seats and 8 people, so we drew names out of a hat for who got to go to which game. Originally we were just going to the Canada games, but we had some extra tickets we weren't able to sell. So we have gone to quite a few USA games as well. The tournament is split between Regina and Saskatoon, and Sweden and Russia were in Regina. We'll get to see them in the finals.
Traditionally the teams to watch are Canada, USA, Sweden and Russia. And sometimes the Czech's or Swiss will make an appearance in the top teams.

Last night was the biggest rivalry, Canada vs USA. The past 5 years in a row, Canada has won this game, but it's been close. And last night was no exception. Every seat in the stadium was full. It was a sea of red chanting "Go CANADA Go!" It started out with Canada scoring and the cheering was deafening. Then the USA scored and it silenced the crowd. To behonest the US played a better game until part way through the third period. We were down 4-2, and Canada just pulled it together. Scoring twice, then again, but that goal was not counted as there were too many men in the crease. So we went to a 5 minute overtime. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, standing everytime the puck got close to the net. But no score. Then it came down to a shoot out. Each team picks 3 players, and the first definitive goal wins. Canada scored, then the US scored. Then Canada scored then the US scored. It came down to this last pair. Canada scored again, and then the Canadian goalie saved the US shot. And we WON! The crowd went CRAZY!!

Now Canada has a by until the Semi-finals where we will play either Russia or Switzerland. And the US will play in the Quarter Finals against Finland.

For the Final game, we may see a re-match of last year Canada vs Sweden, or we may end up playing the USA again.

I LOVE world juniors!!
